Karen M. Dale, R.N., MSN, Named as Chair of Volunteers of America’s National Board of Directors
ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 20, 2022—Volunteers of America has named Karen M. Dale, R.N. MSN to a two-year term as chairperson of its national board of directors effective July 1, 2022.
Dale is market president for AmeriHealth Caritas District of Columbia, a mission-based Medicaid managed care organization in Washington, D.C. Dale also serves as chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer for the AmeriHealth Caritas Family of Companies. Her focus includes applying a health equity lens to impact all levels of policies, processes, decisions, laws and outcomes for the communities AmeriHealth Caritas serves.
Dale has been on the national Volunteers of America board for seven years and was EVP of operations with the organization from 2004 to 2008. She also serves as a board member for Volunteers of America National Services—a division of VOA that primarily oversees housing, healthcare and associated programs.
“We are extremely fortunate that Karen has agreed to chair our national board,” said Mike King, national president and CEO of Volunteers of America. “She has extensive knowledge on how VOA operates as well as the organization’s strengths, challenges and needs. The combination of her nonprofit and healthcare experience will be a tremendous asset as we create a successful roadmap for the organization’s future.”
“I am delighted to be the chair of this powerful national board,” said Dale. “Volunteers of America has always been an organization that’s close to my heart and I hope to make a difference as board chair. As Volunteers of America grows its healthcare programs and offerings, my background in nonprofits, healthcare and DEI should be helpful in guiding the organization.”
Dale holds a Master of Science degree in psychiatric mental health nursing from The Catholic University, Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia. She was a member of the Leadership Greater Washington Class of 2003. She lives in Bowie, Md. and enjoys running and bike riding.
